What is Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate?

Magnesium chloride hexahydrate, also known as hydrochlorite, is a colorless monoclinic crystal at room temperature, easy to deliquescence, with a density of 1.56g/cm3 and a melting point of 712°C. It is heated and decomposed in the air, and HCl gas is released at about 118°C and becomes chlorine. Oxygen compounds are decomposed into MgO and HCl when heated at high temperature. Use the hydration of magnesium chloride to react with alkali. At 70 °C, magnesium chloride is hydrated to magnesium chloride hexahydrate, and then excess concentrated ammonia water is added. At this time, the purity of ammonia water should be maintained. After adding ammonia water, it can be precipitated after cooling to room temperature. White flaky crystal magnesium hydroxide, the reaction equation is: MgCl2+2NH3+2H2O→Mg(OH)2+2NH4Cl.

Production Method of Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate

Seawater is concentrated to precipitate bittern after crystallization of sodium chloride. After extracting potassium chloride and bromine, it can be concentrated to make bittern. The relative density is 1.7059 (15.5℃), and the main components are: MgC1246.8%, CaCl23.42%, NaCl0. 36%, CaSO40.43%. Then after vacuum removal of bromine, atmospheric pressure evaporation to 140 ℃, after removal of impurities, cooling and the precipitation of magnesium chloride hexahydrate needle crystals, separated and then recrystallized to obtain the finished product. Or magnesium chloride can also be obtained by dissolving magnesium oxide or magnesium carbonate in hydrochloric acid. MgCO3+2HCl→MgCl2+H2O+CO2↑
